FAA Approves Passenger Facility Charges to Fund $182 milion for O'Hare Airport Improvements

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved the use of Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs) to fund $182 million for airfield design and terminal planning activities for the O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP).

The Passenger Facility Charge funding will allow for the preparation of construction-ready design drawings for the remaining airfield elements of the OMP. With the approval of this application, the design elements for every OMP airfield component are now fully funded.

The remaining airfield elements include: Runway 9C-27C, Runway 10R-28L, Runway 9R-27L extension as well as related enabling projects.

The Western Terminal Planning Study will refine planning efforts undertaken in the O’Hare Master Plan for a new terminal campus located west of the existing terminal core.

These design and planning activities will begin in the first quarter of 2009, with construction commencing in 2010.

As with every OMP funding source, no local or state taxpayer dollars will be used to fund any portion of the OMP.

“We are pleased with the FAAs approval of our PFC applications to fund OMP runway design and western terminal planning activities”, said Rosemarie S. Andolino, OMP Executive Director.  “With this approval, we have reached another important milestone for this project of national significance.”
